Milagros studied Drawing & Painting at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and holds MFA degrees in both Studio Arts and Scenic Design from The University of Maryland at College Park. Milagros joined The School of Theatre faculty at Penn State University in 2010 and her areas of specialization include scenic design, scene painting, and rendering for the theater.
Recent regional theatre credits in the Washington, D.C. area include scenic designs for Jefferson’s Garden and Ragtime at The Ford’s Theatre, In the Heights, coproduced by Round House and Olney Theatre Centre, and Sweeney Todd at Olney Theatre Centre. Additional regional design credits include scenic designs for Catalyst Theatre, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, Everyman Theatre, Gala Hispanic Theatre, Imagination Stage, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Metro Stage, National Players, Opera Vivente, Penn State Centre Stage, Rep Stage, Theatre Alliance, and Studio Theatre 2nd Stage among others. International credits include the scenic design for Long Day’s Journey Into Night in Lima, Peru.
Upcoming design projects include sets for Imagination Stage, Olney Theatre Center, and The Ford's Theatre in the Washington D.C. area, and the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City.
Milagros has received three Helen Hayes nominations for outstanding scenic design, most recently for her scenic design for In The Heights at Olney Theatre Center. She is an Artistic Associate at Olney Theatre Centre and a member of United Scenic Artists, Local-829.
